Birth

The registration of a birth with the French civil register can be done at any time.
The couple or the French parent may apply in person or by post.

You will need to provide the following documents for the transcription

Application form
The certified copy of an entry of birth (full birth certificate)
Family booklet
Full birth certificates for both parents (2) (any person born in the United-Kingdom should provide the “certified copy of an entry”)
(1) French parent born

In France apply for the birth certificate at your birth town hall

Proof of French nationality (one of the following documents)
A valid French identity card
Certificate of French nationality
Birth certificate or family booklet mentioning the nationality
Decree of French nationality

Self-addressed envelope special or recorded delivery
If you are not living in the UK, you can get international coupons from the local post office (cheques or cash can not be accepted)

When applicable

Full copy of the statutory declaration issued by a French town hall or consulate
Joint declaration of surname (children born on or after the 1st January 2005; the form may be obtained from this department by mail or phone)

Other documents may be required

(1) Birth certificate should be recent
(2) Any person born overseas should obtain their certificate from their place of birth with a translation if the document is neither in English nor in French
