How to apply at the French Visa Section

To apply for a visa at the French Consulate, you should follow the steps below:

- First ensure that you need a visa to travel to the Schengen Area

- If you do, make sure that you are eligible (i.e. you have the right to live in the UK – and not the holder of a C-visit visa)

- Ensure that the French Consulate is competent in processing your application (Your application will be denied should it not be the case)

- Gather all supporting documents as per the purpose of your trip in France (warning: incomplete files often lead to visa refusals and fees are not refundable) and complete the application form

- Check whether you are eligible for a postal application (this opportunity is given only to people living in specific counties and for some types of visas)

- Should you need to submit the application at the French Consulate, London, book an appointment (compulsory to enter the Visa Section)

Before going to the consulate, you must:

- Ensure you have all the requested supporting documents and in the correct order by completing this form (it will have to be presented to the Visa Officer)

- Do not forget to include a self-addressed envelope (Special delivery or 1st class)

- Check the visa administrative fee (caution: the visa fee is not refundable, it is charged for the administrative process and not the visa itself)

- Check our address

Some additional advices:

- Be on time for your appointment…

- Allow several hours for your appointment so please take all the necessary steps (parking, childcare, etc.) and avoid bringing young children to the Consulate

- To expedite the process you will be asked to file your documents (originals and photocopies) in a folder. Make sure you follow the directive as this reduces the risk of your application being refused.

- Photocopies are compulsory: you won’t be able to make them once you are inside the premises.

- Your travel insurance should bear the words "certificate" and not be a simple quotation.

Bon voyage en France !
