Learning French

Founded in 1910, the Institut français du Royaume-Uni (IFRU) is the official French government centre of language and culture in London. It is one of 150 Instituts in more than 50 countries throughout the world. This guarantees a totally reliable and professional approach. Every year around 7,000 students enroll at the Institut’s Language Centre. In addition to traditional language courses, the Centre offers courses in business French, and on different aspects of French culture and current affairs. It caters for students of all levels of proficiency in French, and its courses are tailored to the demands of particular types of students, for example, those wanting to brush up their French before their summer holidays, or time-pressured professionals needing a quick and intensive course of business French. The Centre has 75 instructors, all native French speakers and qualified teachers; specialist courses are taught by experts in their field. On all the Centre’s courses, the emphasis is on communication, oral and written, and whatever their level, students are encouraged to take an active part in lessons.

French language courses are also provided by another French Institute in Edinburgh, and various Alliance Francaise throughout the UK (Bath, Belfast, Bristol, Cambridge, East-Midlands, Exeter, Glasgow, Jersey, London, Milton-Keynes, Manchester and Oxford).
