Presentation

Britain and France’s destinies have been intimately linked by geography and mutual influence. The motto on the Royal coat of arms is "Dieu et mon droit"; no one has seen any need to translate it into English.

Rivals on the world stage down the centuries, Britain and France are now strong allies across a wide range of spheres: political affairs, defence, trade, science, education and culture.

The Entente Cordiale has come of age. Commercial and sporting competitors, the two countries invariably come together when it matters, forming a true alliance of equals which has stood the test of time. Today, France and Britain are working together in a whole series of spheres, from defence to education, trade and culture .

In the European Union, Britain and France are working together to prepare the Union’s forthcoming enlargement, consolidate the internal market, increase the effectiveness of the common foreign and security policy and improve cooperation on justice and home affairs.
